The EliSabeth Gilman Day Dinner

Historically, the Socialist Party established many party-recognized holidays and local gatherings to celebrate community and party members.

Each December we reach back into our history to commemorate a founding mother of the Socialist Party in Maryland and gather to celebrate another year.

Elisabeth Gilman was the daughter of the first President of Johns Hopkins University, a Hopkins graduate and social worker, and multiple-time candidate of the Socialist Party of America. She was the Socialist nominee for Governor of Maryland in 1930. She also ran for United States Senate, Mayor of Baltimore, and Sheriff of Baltimore.

Elisabeth Gilman was born and died (at the age of 82) in December, so we celebrate her day each December.
